P. Steckter, fish in the Xapa river were yesterday given a real treat. The members of the finny tribe were served with intoxicating liquors of all kinds which had been collected in various raids and from illegal motorists by officers of Xapa county In recent than 400 gaUons of the booze were either destroyed at the sheriffs office or were poured into the Xapa river.

At LONG ILLNESS Prominent Resident of Atlas Way Section Passes Away Wednesday Afternoon Mrs. Emma Mattson, beloved wife of A. Mattson, of the Atlas section, wa9 claimed by death yesterday afternoon at her home on Atlas Way east of this city. Mrs. Mattson had been in failing health for more than a year, during which time every effort had been made to bring about a change for the better in her condition but proved unsuccessful.

Deceased was possessed of an admirable and winning character and personality, which caused her to be greatly admired by a wide circle of friends throughout Napa county. Mrs. Mattson was a native, of Sweden and was aged 52 years. She is survived by her husband, living in Napa, her father, two brothers and two sisters all living in Sweden. Funeral services will be held at ten oclock Friday morning from the Treadway Funeral chapel.

Following the services the remains will be taken to Oakland for cremation. O.S. PRISON Napan Now Incarcerated in Federal Penitentiary at McNeills Island John South, convicted of federal charges growing out of a raid on his home at Tountville by prohibition officers and the resultant death of Federal Agent Robert Freeman as the result of gunshot wounds, has arrived at McNeils Island prison in "Washington. South is now serving his term of ten years in the federal penitentiary. His wife, accused of similar charges, was freed by the Jurys verdict.

Colorado Banker Visited in Napa Mr. and Mrs. Lee Warner of Frutia, Colorado, were visitors in Napa yesterday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ed.

Moore. Mr. Warner is the cashier of the First National Bank of the Colorado City. In company with his wife he is enjoying a tour of California after which they will continue on to the Yellowstone Park. Mr.

and Mrs. Moore made the close acquaintance of the Warners when they resided in Colorado. TRI-DISTRICT PICNIC FRIDAY Residents of the Franklin, Harmony and Coombs districts will gather at the Coombs ranch in Coombsvllle on Friday to take part in the annual picnic. The picnic will be an all-day affair starting at 10 oclock in the morning. All residents of the district are urged to attend and to bring with them their lunches.

Phone 988 NAPA REDMEN TO ASSIST VALLEJO CANDIDATE IN OFFICE CAMPAIGN Endorsement of the candicacy of Guy Ruperto of Samoset tribe, Vallejo, for the office of great junior sagamore was unequivocally given by Otonkah tribe of Red Men at last nights meeting in Native Sons hall. A delegation from the Vallejo tribe, which appeared at the session in behalf of Ruperto, was enthusiastically ceived, The position great junior sagamore is the first stepping stone towards the office of great sachem, the highest position any member of the Red Me can attain in this state. The meeting of the great council, at which the election for great junior sagamore, great sachem, and other officers will take place, will be held at Santa Cruz about the middle of August. A committee was appointed to make arrangements for the tribe to turn out in full costume for the Fourth of July parade in St. Helena.

Charged With Driving Automobile While Intoxicated for Third Time Elbert Fannon of Calistoga was arrested Tuesday in El Cerrito for the third time since 1927 on a charge of driving an automobile while intoxicated. He is being held in lieu of $200 bail. On August 27, 1928, Fannon pleaded guilty before the Superior Court here and was sentenced to serve six months in the county jail, while his driver's license was revoked for one year. A year later he again pleaded guilty to a driving while drunk charge and was fined $1500 or ordered to serve a year in jail. John Smith of Calistoga, who was riding with Fannon, was arrested for being intoxicated, but was released on payment of $10 bail.

Clarence Newcomb Home From Del Monte Clarence I. Newcomb of Napa has returned from a three days' convention in Del Monte where members of the New York Life Insurance company gathered to honor First Vice-President Thomas A. Buckner who is celebrating his 50th anniversary as a member of the New York Life company. The affair was attended by honor delegates of districts in the Pacific Coast territory. C.

E. Butler Enters Horses in Rodeo C. E. Butler of Union Station will enter two of his prize horses, Rosalie and Miss Goldie, in the Ukiah rodeo, which begins tomorrow. These are the same horses which won second place in two different races at Miller-icks rodeo in Sonoma last week.

They are entered in the free-for-all race of the gentlemen's saddle horse class. Local Legion Post Receives Lost Keys Several keys with the identification marks of Xapa Post Xo. 113 on them have been received by W. O. Mackey, adjutant of the local American Legion Post.

They were recently found on a bus at San Jose. Mackey is now endeavoring to locate the owner. Thompson Forecasts 85 Per Cent Goal Will Be Reached Saturday Vice Chairman William t. Thompson of the grape sign up campaign in Napa county last ght announced that a total of 17,000 tons, or 75 per cent of the total, had sbeen affixed to contracts from Napa county growers, leaving but 15 per cent of the countys tonriage to be secured before this district will be over the top in the drive wtged throughout California.

Thompson stated that the 17,000 tons had been secured up to seven oclock last night and that according to the outlook at that time Napa county will have reached its quota by Saturday night. The lower section of Xapa county has signed nearly 9H per (eent, with returns from Calistoga and St. Helena indicating that the growers of that section are favorably aligning heinselves in the campaign at a rapid rate. Feely Services Held Wednesday Funeral services for the late Patrick Feely were conducted yesterday from the Treadway Funeral Chapel, with interment following in Tulocay cemetery. Deceased was a native of Ireland, aged 63 years and had been a workman at the Lokoya Lodge, passing away after a brief illness at the Victory hospital.

Holderman, congressional medal of honor man, is tile commandant of the State Veterans Home and is assisting in the arrangements of the program for the trek there of the ex-service men and women. In Southern California, the American Legion members and their families will make a pilgrimage to Catalina Island for a day of renewal of old friendships.

Thousands of ex-service men from the ten Southern California counties will make the trip to Catalina win-re an elaborate program lias been prepared. Files Petition in Chalmers Estate A petition for letters of administration in the estate of the late John II. Chalmers was filed in the office of County Clerk James A. Daly yesterday afternoon. The petition states that the estate has a value of approximately $1600.

Milton Young spoke briefly and attacked the Republican state administration, objecting particularly to the high tax toll. Support was pledged to Milton Young by Justus Wardell of San Francisco, who had been mentioned as a possible candidate for governor. He attempted to take a short cut across the base of a hill to head off some of the animals when his machine started to topple. He jumped from the car, but in doing so did not quite throw himself clear of the vehicle and was struck in the back by the machine. LMTA Long Illness Proves Fatal to Napa Woman Early Wednesday Morning Death shortly before two oclock vesterday morning claimed Mrs. Lucille Latta, highly esteemed Napa resident for more than twenty years, her demise occurring at the family home, 108 First street, in this city. Mrs. Latta had been in ill health for several years, during hieh time every assistance of medical science was resorted to in an effort to improve her condition, but to no avail and her death occurred as noted above. Deceased was a niece of the late Louvica and Elijah Heflin, pioneer Napa residents.

She was the daughter of the late Judge Dunham of Indiana. Left to survive her demise is a sister, Norine Dunham, with whom she had been living in Napa and who tenderly cared for her during her long illness. Funeral services will be held from the Treadwray Funeral chapel at two o'clock Saturday afternoon. J. Shearer Not So Well John L.

Shearer, pioneer Napa educator, was last night said to be not quite so well at the Victory Hospital where he has been confined for the past several weeks suffering from an attack of pneumonia. Hi host of Napa friends will anxiously await word of improvement in his condition. Two Bandits Get $6,000 TWIN FALLS. June 11 (UP) Two bandits escaped with $6000 from the Wendell, bank today after locking up the employes and customers. Two men were arrested here following the robbery but were released by Jerome and Gooding county sheriffs who came here and found they were not the men who committeed the robbery.

F. CONSUL SPEAKER TO ROTARIANS Derrel Beard Named Delegate to International Meet at Chicago Next Week D. L. Beard, president-elect of the Napa Rotary Club, will leave here one week from today to attend the convention of Rotary International in Chicago. This will be the second International convention of Rotary clubs that Mr.

Beard has attended, as he went to the convention held last year in Ostend, Belgium. Boys of the Napa Union High School graduating class were guests at yesterdays meeting of the Rotary Club, over which Mr. Beard presided. The principal speaker on the program was Harry Chang, Chinese consul general at San Francisco, who described present day conditions in the Celestial Republic. Car Men Get Raised Pay PORTLAND, June 11 (UP) Motormen and conductors on two-men cars of the street railway company here were awarded raises of three cents an hour and four cents an hour on one-man cars by the arbitration board which heard arguments of the employes and officials of the Pepco company.

The boards decision is final in the wage controversy. Increases of two cents an hour were awarded to maintenance of men and shop employes and to miscellaneous classifications of employes. The raise is 30 per cent of the increase asked by platform men and 20 per cent of that asked by shopmen and trackmen. The former scale for motormen and conductors on two-men cars was 62 cents an hour. The old rate for one-man car and bus operators was 69 cents.

The new wage scale is effective as of March 6, 1930, and will continue up to and including April 30, 1931. Jimmy Doyle Will Be Kiwanis Guest Jimmy Doyle, well known newspaper writer connected with the Oakland Tribune, will be the speaker at today's meeting of the Napa Kiwanig club, to be held in the Chamber of Commerce building at the noon hour. Man Injured as Dams Bank Caves VANCOUVER, June 11 (UP) William Davis, 55, suffered fatal injuries today at a gravel pit near the Ariel dam when a section of a bank caved in and pinned him against a steam shovel. PACIFIC Increasing Tonnage of Napa Valley Fruit Crops Necessitates Change In order to better handle an increasing tonnage of Xapa valley fruit crops, the Southern Pacific Railway is putting in larger and heavier rails on its tracks between Napa Junction and Union Station, three or four miles north of Napa. This will enable the railroad to use bigger engines and trains on its Napa valley line. Due to the greater height of the new rails, the pavement on the First street grade crossing is being raised to keep the road bed smooth.

The new rails weigh 90 pounds as against 56 pounds for the present rails. Napan Fined For Illegal Beer Sale Ernest Borreo, proprietor of a soft drink parlor in Napa, was yesterday arrested by officers under the direction of Chief of Police A. I Herritt and charged with the possession of beer containing an illegal amount of alcoholic content. Borreo was arraigned before Police Judge C. C.

Hackett and fined in the sum of $150 which he paid and was released from custody. Although the establishment was searched for other liquors, none was found, Chief Herritt reported. Napa Couple Weds In Medford, Ore. News of the marriage in Medford, Oregon, of Adelene Curtis of Tountville and Lloyd V. Casa-day of Mare Island was learned in Napa last night.
