Benjamin Campbell Benjamin L. Campbell, a commercial artist for 24 years, died Thursday in Enloe Hospital in Chico at age 64. Mr. Campbell was bom in California July 4, 1926. A commercial artist for over two decades, he had recently retired as the lead artist for the Allen Corp.

of America, which provides audio Burial will be in Tulocay Cemetery. Glen Lewis Glen Enoch Lewis, 77, died Wednesday in the California Veterans Hoifie in Yountville. Mr. Lewis was bom Feb. 13, 1913 to John and Ada (Bennett) Lewis in Denver.

He was educated in Los Angeles area schools, and entered the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1937 at age 17. Mr. Lewis served until 1959, retiring after 22 years of military service working in the motor pool as a mechanic. He married Doris E.

Lewis in visual training programs for Navy and Marine flight crews. Mr. Campbell was a member of the American Society of Marine Artists. His survivors include three sons, Malcolm and Paget, both of Seattle, and Max, of Mountlake, one daughter, Sabrina, of Oakland; and two sisters, Geraldine Bull of Napa, and Viola Hogg of Hughson, Calif. A Catholic prayer service will be held at 11 a.m.

Tuesday at the Claffey and Rota Funeral Home, 1975 Main Napa, with the Rev. Fergal McGuinness of St. Johns Catholic Church officiating. Washington state on Oct. 11, 1948.

Mr. Lewis retired to the Palmdale area, moving to Hanford after the death of his wife of 32 years in 1981 to live with his daughter. He moved to the Veterans Home in 1988, where he enjoyed reading auto mechanic books. Mr. Lewis is survived by one daughter, Nyleve Jodie Randall of Hanford; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Private graveside services will be held Tuesday at Desert Lawn Memorial Park in Palmdale. Arrangements were made with Treadway Wigger Funeral Chapel in Napa. Vital statistics BIRTHS ST. POFF To Regina and Michael Poff, Funeral notices Martha Coombs Martha J. Coombs, a Pope Valley native and widow of Senator Nathan F. Coombs, died Saturday in a local convalescent hospital. She was 92. Mrs.

Coombs was bom Feb. 24, 1898 in Pope Valley. After graduating from Napa High School, she went to Thomson Business School, from which she graduated in 1917. Mrs. Coombs first worked in the offices of Thomas C.

Anglim and Emile Locamini in Napa. She was later employed in the office of Frank L. and Nathan F. Coombs, working as Frank Coombs personal secretary, and in 1921 became a secretary in the State Assembly. Between legislative sessions, Mrs.

Coombs stayed in Sacramento and worked for Mr. Fred Woos in the office of the Legislative Council. She went to San Francisco in 1930 and spent 18 years as a private secretary to one of the attorneys for the University of California Board ofRegents. On Oct. 23, 1948, she married Nathan F.

Coombs. Mrs. Coombs retired prior to her marriage. A 50-year member of Keystone Chapter No. 235 O.E.S.

of Napa, Mrs. Coombs also belonged to the Pals Club, now known as the Legislators Wives Club of California. She was a member of the Napa County Historical Society, the Lawyers Wives of Napa County, the First Presbyterian Church of Napa and an associate member of United Presbyterian Women. Mrs. Coombs is survived by her nephew, Ray Coblentz of Blairsden, and two nieces, Irene Curtis of Marysville, and Dorothy Gantner of Santa Rosa.

She was preceded in death by her husband, and by five brothers and sisters. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the First Presbyterian Church, 1333 Third with the Rev. Frank White and the Rev. Erwin Bollinger officiating.

No visitation is planned at the mortuary, and interment will be private in Tulocay Cemetery. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Napa County Historical Society, 1219 First Napa, 94558; the Queen of the Valley Hospital Foundation, P.O. Box 2069, Napa, 94558, or to a charity of the donors choice. Arrangements are under the direction of Richard Pierce Funeral Service, 1660 Silverado Trail. Mason Ayer SANTA ROSA Mason Washington Ayer, a descendant of frontier pioneers who came West along the Oregon Trail, died Saturday in his home.

He was 75. Mr. Ayer was bom in Alameda Oct. 15, 1915, to Washington Eugene and Grace Juster Ayer. His paternal grandfather, Milo Clarence Ayer of Grass Valley, was the son of Milo Jewett Ayer, a Vermont native who came west along the Oregon Trail with the Boston-Newton Party in 1849 before striking gold and establishing a stamp mill the following year.

He left his mark on Independence Rock, overlooking Wyomings Sweetwater River. His mother, Grace, was born to Edward and Mary Mason Juster of England. Mr. Ayers family moved to Oakland when he was 10, and Mr. Ayer attended public schools there.

He attended Armstrong Junior College in Berkeley and the University of California, Berkeley, before moving to Honolulu in 1935. He graduated from the University of Hawaii in 1938 with a bachelors degree. Mr. Ayer was a social worker with the Social Service Bureau in Honolulu before returning to California in 1940. He enlisted in the U.S.

Navy before the bombing of Pearl Harbor in 1941, serving two of his four years in the Navy on the island of Majuro in the Marshall Islands. Mr. Ayer was honorably discharged after his service. After World War he began a 25-year career as a teacher, administrator and principal in elementary and special education in the Rav-enswood School District in San Mateo County. After retiring in 1977, Mr.

Ayer and his wife moved to Sonoma in 1978 and to Santa Rosa last year. He is survived by his wife, Pauline; his mother, Grace Ayer, one daughter, Katherine Joy of San Jose; a son, Doug Ernst of Napa; one brother, Robert, of Santa Barbara; and six grandchildren.
